Summary of Important Deadlines (A and B)
| Deadline | Component (see below for detailed information) |
| A) 28 November 2008 | ALL applicants must submit each of the following: |
| 1) OUAC/TEAS applications | |
| 2) official transcripts | |
| 3) Personal Statement of Experience | |
| 4) supplemental documentation (as applicable) | |
| B) 22 June 2009 | Deadline for receipt of final official transcripts if courses or degrees are in progress |
Important Deadlines
Application to Queen’s Education requires at the minimum submission of the following three (3) essential components (due 28 November 2008):
1) The online OUAC/TEAS application, including both the OUAC/TEAS and the Queen’s Education fee payment;
2) Official transcripts, consisting of:
a. Postsecondary transcripts from each institution you attended must be submitted directly from the issuing postsecondary institution to Queen’s Education Registrar.
Notes on postsecondary transcripts:
• Most Ontario postsecondary institutions’ transcripts can be ordered directly through the OUAC/TEAS application, to be sent directly to Queen’s Education Registrar’s Office. If your postsecondary institution does not offer transcript requests through OUAC/TEAS, you must contact the institution to request transcripts be sent directly from the institution to Queen’s.
• Applicants who are attending or attended Queen’s do NOT need to request transcripts, as Queen’s University provides that service automatically and at no cost.
• Often applicants have courses on their transcript from a department other than the one that reflects the recommended discipline area (see Program Options below). By the 28 November 2008 deadline:
i. Applicants must provide a course outline and/or course description of that 'related' course for it to be considered.
ii. All documentation to support the teaching subject course requirements must arrive by the application deadline in order to be considered. Information sent after the deadline will not be considered.
iii. The Queen’s Education Registrar makes the final decision whether or not a course meets the recommended discipline area.
b. Technological Education program applicants must arrange to have their secondary school transcripts to be sent directly from the school or school board to the Queen’s Education Registrar.
c. International Transcripts
Applicants with international transcripts must follow the Policy on International Academic Documents for Admission to BEd/DipEd Programs.
Additional transcript requirements:
• All transcripts submitted must be official, bearing the institutional seal and/or original signature of the institution’s registrar. Photocopied or faxed transcripts are not acceptable.
• All transcripts, once received, become the property of the Queen's Education Registrar. They are not returned to the applicant.
• An applicant’s previous academic credentials must be from an institution providing an academic environment and education that prepares students for potential success in advanced study at Queen’s.
3) The Personal Statement of Experience (PSE), submitted online through the Queen’s Applicant Student Query (ASQ) website.
4) Additional Supplemental Documentation (to be received by the deadline of 28 November 2008)
Please read below to determine if your particular application requires more documentation.
Does your application fit in this category? |
What you need to do: |
a. Applying to one of the three program tracks (Aboriginal Teacher Education, Artist in Community Education or the Outdoor and Experiential Education)? |
Review and submit the program track supplemental documents. |
b. Applying to Intermediate-Senior? |
All IS applicants are required to list the university courses they wish to be counted towards their first and second teaching subjects on the Intermediate-Senior Teaching Subject Form (online submission). |

Review and submit the Technological Education application documents. |
d. Applying with a graduate degree in progress? |
Candidates who are completing a graduate degree (e.g., MA, MSc) and who plan to receive the degree at spring convocation may be eligible for additional admission points. To receive this credit, candidates must provide the Education Registrar’s Office with a letter from their graduate supervisor no later than the deadline, 28 November 2008, confirming that they will be graduating in the spring. Then, by 22 June 2009, candidates must submit a transcript showing that the graduate degree was indeed conferred. |
e. Applying under Equity Admission? |
For a designated number of places in the Education, preference is given to members of Aboriginal/First Nations groups, visible racial minorities and differently-abled groups currently under-represented within the teaching profession. Equity applicants are automatically considered for admission under regular admission procedures as well. Click here to review and submit the Equity Admission Form. |

i. Do you meet our English Language Requirement? |
English is the language of instruction at Queen’s University and in the schools in Ontario where our teacher candidates carry out their required practice teaching. Consequently, all applicants to the program are required to provide evidence of oral and written proficiency in English in one of two ways: EITHER candidates must have studied full-time for at least three full years (or the equivalent) at a university where the language of instruction and examination was in English in a country where one of the official languages is English OR candidates must achieve a satisfactory score on a comprehensive test of English facility in order to be eligible for admission consideration. Complete information about this requirement, including a list of acceptable test options and minimum required scores, is available here. |
B) 22 June 2009 - Deadline for receipt of final university transcripts for courses and/or degrees in progress
If you are currently completing your university degree and/or course prerequisites for admission, final university transcript(s) must be received by the Queen’s Education Registrar by 22 June 2009 indicating that the degree has been granted and/or courses have been completed. All transcripts must be submitted directly from the issuing institution to Queen’s Education Registrar. This date applies to both undergraduate and graduate degrees that were in progress over the academic year. For all applicants except for those applying to Technological Education, acceptance into an Ontario Education program is confirmed only after the applicant has successfully completed their undergraduate degree.
IMPORTANT NOTES TO READ BEFORE YOU APPLY ONLINE!
1. Queen’s Faculty of Education will make, at the most, only one offer of admission per applicant. Applicants are welcome to apply to as many program options/tracks as they wish, up to a maximum of three. If an offer of admission is made, it will be for the first-ranked choice for which the applicant is deemed acceptable. It is very important, then, for applicants to carefully consider their Queen’s choices and the order of those choices.
2. Applicants for ATE (Q12, Q32), ACE (Q15, Q35) and OEE (Q18, Q38) program tracks must apply to the corresponding regular program option if they wish to be considered. For example, applicants for ACE Intermediate/Senior (Q35) program track must also apply if they wish to be considered for the regular Intermediate/Senior program option (Q15), if they are not offered admission into ACE.
3. If appropriate prerequisites do not appear on the transcript or if “in progress” courses have not been itemized on the OUAC application, the applicant must inform the Queen’s Education Registrar of their enrolment in these courses. This information must be received by the OUAC application deadline.
4. Selection of applicants for PJ and IS program options is based on:
a) if all admission requirements are met;
b) the number of spaces available in the option/teaching subject/program track requested;
c) the score from the Personal Statement of Experience; and
d) the score based on the academic average and number of prerequisites.
The scores from (c) and (d) above have equal weight.
5. Only documentation requested by the Education Registrar on the Admissions website is considered for admission. We will not read any unsolicited material or letters of reference; all unsolicited documents will be destroyed.
6. After submitting your application through OUAC/TEAS, you can acknowledge that it has been received by Queen's Faculty of Education by logging in to ASQ. Please allow 3-5 business days for your application or any changes to be received from the OUAC to Queen's. Note that Queen's will receive it's first batch of applications from OUAC at the beginning of October, so applications submitted in late September must wait until this time to login to ASQ. Use ASQ to:
- see what documents are required to support your application
- check the status of your application on 1 April 2009
- submit your Personal Statement of Experience
- verify your mailing address
- update your email address
- update permission to release information
Please note that Queen's Faculty of Education does not acknowledge by mail that applications have been received.

Queen’s Education Admission Policies
(For ALL Applicants Except For Those to Technological Education)
1. Queen’s Faculty of Education prefers applicants to the BEd program who have four-year university degrees or equivalent, (i.e., 20 full-year or equivalent university courses). Applicants with three-year degrees are unlikely to be competitive with the applicants who have four-year degrees unless they are exemplary in their academics (as supported by their university transcript) and in their experiences (as supported by the Personal Statement of Experience and, in the case of the ACE program track, their portfolio).
2. Applicants for admission to the BEd program must have, at the time of application, final passing grades available on no fewer than 5.0 full-year (or equivalent) courses taken at a recognized university and must have, or be completing, a university degree that includes no fewer than 10.0 full-year courses in total taken at a recognized university.
3. Applicants are RECOMMENDED to have a minimum of a “B” average on their best ten full-year university courses. The standard for a “B” average is determined by the university attended; at most Canadian universities, a “B” is considered to be 70%.
4. Transfer credits
In order to be considered for admission, applicants who were assessed transfer credits toward a university degree program must have completed five full-year university courses and have five full-year university courses in progress. They must have a minimum of a “B” average on their existing five full-year university courses, and must maintain a “B” average on 10.0 full-year university courses.
Transfer credits on a university transcript will be counted by the Queen’s Education Registrar only if they were taken at a recognized postsecondary institution.
5. For applicants to both Primary-Junior (PJ) and Intermediate-Senior (IS) program options, applicants are required to have 1 half-year university course in Developmental Psychology (or the equivalent), or 1 full-year (or equivalent) university course in Introductory Psychology.
6. Basis of Admission for Advanced Study
To satisfy the basis of admission to any advanced-entry professional or graduate degree program at Queen’s University, it is expected that previous academic credentials will be from an institution providing an academic environment and education that prepares students for potential success in advanced study at Queen’s.
