Technological Education Program
Fall-Winter and Internship Option
There is a demand for competent technological education teachers in public and private secondary schools, business and industry, adult and continuing education, and correctional services. This program option is designed for candidates who intend to become technology educators in Grade 9 to Grade 12.

The Technological Education option is designed to provide emphasis on broad-based technologies, rather than specific skilled technologies. Qualification is granted in one broad-based technology (Grades 9- 12):
-
Communications Technology
-
Construction Technology
-
Hairstyling and Aesthetics*
*Aestheticians must hold a Hairstyling trade certificate.
-
Health Care
-
Hospitality and Tourism
-
Manufacturing Technology
-
Technological Design
-
Transportation Technology*
*Applicants for Transportation Technology require a Certificate of Qualification.
Graduates are also qualified to teach Grade 9 Integrated Technologies. Note that Computer Science falls under the Intermediate-Senior program option, not Technological Education.
Applicants who hold an undergraduate university degree may apply to the Bachelor of Education (BEd). Applicants with a minimum of a secondary school diploma or equivalent may apply to the Diploma in Education (DipEd). The same courses are taken in both programs.
For complete admission information, including how to determine if your type of work reflects the Broad-Based Technology curriculum teaching subjects, refer to the Technological Education Application Documents.
Fall-Winter Program
The fall-winter Technological Education program is integrated with the Consecutive Education program, and candidates take similar courses as those in the Consecutive Intermediate-Senior program. Internship Program
Applicants for the Technological Education internship program must have a firm offer of a teaching position for the school year following Summer 1.
| Summer 1 | Fall-Winter | Summer 2 |

After successful completion, a Certificate of Qualification (Limited) is granted by the OCT allowing candidates to teach in the fall-winter. | Online courses through the Faculty of Education and 194 days of teaching in schools. | Four weeks of courses at the Faculty of Education (July). |
The content of the internship program is identical to the fall-winter program. Each component of the program must be completed successfully prior to beginning the next term’s course work. Click here to view courses taken in the internship program.
Certification
Both routes (BEd and DipEd) lead to the candidate receiving a teaching certificate from the Ontario College of Teachers at the end of the program. Holders of the Diploma in Education, who submit to the Education Registrar's Office proof of having been granted an acceptable degree, will be awarded a Bachelor of Education degree. The degree considered for the awarding of a BEd degree must have no transfer credit that was counted toward the program requirements for the DipEd.
