Online Practicum Registration - 2008-2009
To assist the Practicum Office in finding a placement for you, you must:
1. Register for your practicum online.
2. Apply for a Police Check through the Ontario Education Services Corporation (OESC ID card) by May 30 so that you will receive it by September 2008. This clearance is a requirement of all Ontario school boards to allow you to go into a school.
Candidates in the 2008-2009 BEd/DipEd program are required to complete a twelve week extended practicum that is broken up into three (3) teaching blocks (normally all within the same Associate School).
Practicum Block One - October 6-31, 2008 (4 weeks)
Practicum Block Two - November 24-December 19, 2008 (4 weeks)
Practicum Block Three - February 17-March 13, 2009 (4 weeks) (February 16 - Family Day)

2. Police Check
Deadline: May 30, 2008.
All teacher candidates enrolled in any Ontario Faculty of Education must have a police record check before they can enter into schools in Ontario for their teaching practicum. The Ontario Education Services Corporation (OESC) has been authorized by the four Ontario school board associations (public school boards, Catholic school boards, French school boards, and French Catholic school board) to conduct the required criminal background check. A Police Check from a local Police Department will not be accepted.
*Candidates should apply to the web site below no later than 30 May 2008 to ensure that their criminal background check has been carried out in time to receive their **ID card prior to entering schools in October. Candidates will not be allowed to start their practicum placement if they do not have their OESC ID card.
*Candidates apply for the 'ID card' and not the 'written report' to work with children in schools for their practicum placement.
**International candidates or candidates who have resided outside of Canada for more than one year, must get a Police Check from the country in which they resided, prior to applying through the Ontario Education Services Corporation.
