Visiting International Scholar Fellowship

Background

The Queen’s University Faculty of Education Visiting International Scholar Fellowship has been established by the Dean for the year 2007, and is a separate fellowship from that provided by the Principal of Queen’s University.

Fellowship Purpose

The Queen’s University Faculty of Education Visiting International Scholar Fellowship facilitates visits to Queen’s by researchers and scholars from institutions outside of Canada (including existing institutional partners) where there is potential to establish new research collaborations with Faculty of Education faculty members. This fellowship, to be offered in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, is intended to enhance the internationalization of the Faculty of Education by attracting scholars in the field of Education from around the world.

Please note that the grant does not include a health plan. Visiting Scholars must purchase University Health Insurance (UHI) as outlined by Queen’s University Human Resources. UHI expenses are borne by the Visiting Scholar and must be purchased for the full duration of the Fellowship.

Eligibility

Applicants will be evaluated based on academic merit as shown by the publication or artistic record, with applications assessed using the following criteria (listed in order of priority):

Conditions of Award

It is expected that the Queen’s University Faculty of Education Visiting International Scholar will work closely with one or more faculty members at the Faculty of Education. There is the clear expectation that they may produce joint and individual publications during and after the tenure of the award.
The Visiting International Scholar will be present on campus during the period of the Fellowship, and will work with graduate students, provide lectures or seminars and opportunities for interaction with students and faculty members.

Term and Duration of Fellowships

Fellowships shall be made available in the years 2007-08 and 2008-09 to a maximum of sixteen thousand dollars ($16,000) per person for expenses as outlined above, for a maximum of two months of full-time research at the Faculty of Education. The first Fellowship(s) shall commence 1 August 2007.

Application Requirements

Applicants shall submit a curriculum vitae accompanied by a proposal not exceeding 1,000 words. Examples of research and publications are permissible.

The application must demonstrate:

  1. that the applicant is currently undertaking original educational research
  2. how the visit has the potential to generate new and sustainable collaborative research projects with individual faculty member(s) (closeness of match)
  3. the academic strength of the proposal (including a desire to work with graduate students, partner with faculty members in shared research efforts, deliver seminars, workshops…)
  4. relevance to and impact on the faculty as a whole (closeness of match)
